Lena Dunham Apologizes After Defending ‘Girls’ Writer Accused of Sexual Assault

Lena Dunham apologized Saturday night for defending a writer and producer on Girls who was accused of sexual assault.

In a lengthy statement posted on her Twitter account on Saturday, Dunham said she never expected to defend someone accused of sexual assault, but she “naively” believed it was important to share her own perspective on her friend’s situation.

“I now understand that it was absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement and I am so sorry. We have been given the gift of powerful voices and by speaking out we were putting the thumb on the scale and it was wrong,” Dunham wrote.

Dunham and Girls co-showrunner Jenni Konner had questioned the allegations against Murray Miller, a writer and producer on Girls. Deadline reported on Friday that actor Aurora Perrineau had filed a report with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department alleging Miller had assaulted her in 2012, when she was 17. Murray denied the allegations through his attorney, according to Deadline.

Dunham and Konner stood by Murray in a statement to Deadline, categorizing the allegation as one that was misreported.

“While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3% of assault cases that are misreported every year. It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue,” they said in their statement.

Man Tricked Teen Girls Into Online Sex Acts and Threatened to Post Their Images Online, Police Say

(TRENTON, N.J.) — Authorities in New Jersey say a Florida man accused of blackmailing five teenage girls to pose nude and engage in sexual conduct on web cameras has pleaded guilty to manufacturing child pornography.

New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino says Daniel Derringer III also pleaded guilty Friday to distributing child pornography and debauching the morals of a child.

The 28-year-old Lake Worth man faces up to 12 years in prison when he’s sentenced Feb. 9. He also will have to register as a sex offender.

Authorities say the former Union City, New Jersey, resident posed online as a young girl to trick teen girls into exposing themselves on their web cameras. Investigators say he threatened to post those images online if the girls did not engage in further sexual conduct.

Megyn Kelly: Donald Trump Is ‘Tone Deaf’ for Criticizing Al Franken

NBC host Megyn Kelly called President Donald Trump “tone deaf” for criticizing Al Franken after sexual assault allegations against the Minnesota senator surfaced last week.

Citing tweets from Trump that condemned Franken’s alleged behavior and his past attempts to lecture “anyone who would listen about sexual harassment and respect for women,” Kelly drew parallels between the senator and President Trump.

“Who that has been accused of sexual assault would have the gall to preach to others about sexual misconduct?” Kelly asked with feigned ignorance, alluding to the president’s own sexual assault accusations. Trump has denied these allegations.

After chastising Franken’s initial efforts to downplay a photo that appears to show him groping radio personality Leeann Tweeden’s breasts while she sleeps, Kelly also slammed Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore for joining the chorus criticizing Franken, noting that he has been accused of sexual misconduct by nine women.

“Is this guy going to be our next senator?” Kelly asked.
